Refractory concrete

Classic refractory concrete – ŽO, with a high cement content (15–30%), is among the easiest castables to apply (proper mixing and drying). Although it does not provide the highest performance under extreme operating conditions, it represents a universal and cost-effective solution for many standard operating conditions in refractory linings.

Medium-cement refractory castables – ŽOM achieve bonding with a cement content in the range of 5–15%. They represent a compromise between classic and low-cement castables in terms of performance and workability.

Specialists appreciate the favorable properties achieved even at low temperatures (including prior to equipment start-up) as well as better workability compared to low-cement alternatives or cement-free systems.

Low-cement castables – ŽN require a minimal binder content (3–10%) to achieve bonding. For this reason, their application requires greater attention than conventional concretes; however, a properly installed lining exhibits enhanced properties, such as higher temperature resistance, lower porosity, resistance to corrosion and abrasion, and increased resistance to thermal shock.

Lightweight low-cement castables – ŽNL require a minimal binder content (3–10%) to achieve bonding. Consequently, their application demands greater care compared to conventional concretes. When properly installed, the lining is characterized by improved properties, including higher temperature resistance, lower porosity, resistance to corrosion and abrasion, and enhanced resistance to thermal shock.

Self-flowing low-cement castables – ŽNS require a minimal binder content (3–10%) to achieve bonding. Due to this, their application requires increased attention compared to conventional concretes. However, a correctly executed lining provides superior properties, such as higher temperature resistance, lower porosity, resistance to corrosion and abrasion, and improved thermal shock resistance.

The ŽN–SiC product line includes low-cement refractory castables designed for special applications in areas exposed to severe thermal shock and corrosive environments.

Insulating refractory concretes of the KTI and KLI product lines are available with bulk densities ranging from 0.6 to 1.4 g/cm³ and are designed for operation at temperatures from 600 °C to 1450 °C. They are manufactured using lightweight clay and shale-based raw materials.

Although not as resistant as dense refractory concretes, they provide sufficient mechanical strength for many applications in the insulating layers of refractory linings.
